Santiago Ancheta

May 13, 1993 – March 3, 2023 

Santiago went on to be with our creator on 03/03/2023, at Providence Hospital in Everett, WA. He left behind his Mother Aliana Diaz, Stepmother Chandell Diaz. Siblings Gloria Warner, Michael Warner, Charles Warner and Anthony Herod. Santiago had many talents he was passionate about, such as drawing, playing the flute and basketball. We will miss his contagious laugh, beautiful smile, limitless love, uplifting spiritand giving personality. He was preceded in death by his step-father Jonathan Warner.

Lydia Mae Lahela Hinsee

September 29, 1987 – March 5, 2023

Tulalip Tribal member, Lydia Mae Lahela Hinsee went to be with the lord March 5th, 2023. She was born to Holliday Hayes and Samuel F. K. Hinsee on September 29th 1987, in Everett, WA. Lydia loved posting her MUOTD (makeup of the day) and playing Pokemon Go where she met her love Sam, the father of her one and only miracle baby Taylor (Tay Tay). Tay Tay was the light of her life, her rainbow baby whom she waited 14 years for. She always updated family and friends about her pregnancy journey and baby milestones on social media for everyone to adore.

She loved collecting LOL Dolls, mini brands , shopkins and squishmallows. She loved binge watching her favorite tv shows and staying up late to talk with her sisters. She enjoyed playing her favorite slots and playing bingo with her family. She also loved photographing scenery. Her motherly instinct was strong, always taking care of numerous babies including her siblings.

Lydia leaves behind her Parents Holliday & Antonio, Daughter Taylor, Son Sammy. Siblings Wanda (Ryan), June, Lola, Jaelarae, Kayden/Alex, Avaughnei and Akela (KeKe) Special sisters Layla, Denise, Jessica Bustad,Teresa, Selena (Walla Walla) and Brother Calvin (Cali-Cal). Numerous Aunts, Uncles, Second mom’s and Nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her Father Samuel F. K. Hinsee, Dad Ronald J. Horne Sr., Great Grandma Marjorie Lydia Henry Hayes, Grandparents Warren and Wanda (Williams) Hayes, Jo Landert and Walter Steinbach, Merle Hayes II, Uncle Victor Nelson Sr. , Brother Troy D. Bradford, Special nephew Kiyaire Leeoni Wilson Flores. And many other family and friends.

An evening service will be held Thursday, March 9, 2023 at the Tulalip Gathering Hall. A celebration of Life will be held Friday, March 10, 2023 at 10:00 am at the Tulalip Gathering Hall with burial to follow at Mission Beach Cemetery.

Donna Ancheta-Martinez

Donna C. September 19, 1946 – Ancheta-Martinez February 12, 2023 Donna C. Ancheta-Martinez, 76 of Denver, CO, passed away February 12, 2023.
She was born Sept. 19, 1946 in Seattle, WA to Perfecto Ancheta and Louise Paul-Ancheta. She grew up in Seattle. She married Hank Martinez on August 16, 2004 in Denver, CO. In 2005 she reunited with her family in Seattle,

David Charles Fryberg Sr.

 

December 30 1941 – February 14, 2023

David Charles Fryberg Sr., 81, passed away on February 14, 2023 surrounded by his family.

He was born on December 30, 1941 at the Tulalip Hospital to Abraham “Shorty” and Elizabeth “Rose” Fryberg.

David attended Marysville school district until he enlisted in the Marines in 1959. He was a proud military man and served two tours in Vietnam during his enlistment. He continued his education later in life and graduated with his Bachelors degree from Antioch University of Seattle. 

David was also a proud indigenous man who shared his cultural teachings with those close to him to include traveling the pow wow trail as a traditional dancer. He was a drum maker, carver and master weaver, sharing his artwork with many.

He was connected to the water in every aspect of his life. Beginning as a child, David was a fisherman and would relocate to the water during the various seasons to provide for his family alongside his father Shorty and other family members. He later served as a Welder, traveling from California to the Bering Sea repairing ships, remembered as a “masterful welder” with the ability to weld behind his back utilizing a mirror. 

Throughout his adult life he had many titles and practiced in several areas of employment to include serving as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor for 30 years. Having 37 years of sobriety, David was held in high regard and provided a positive influence to many throughout his career as a Sobriety Counselor. 

David ended his career as the Veterans Coordinator for Tulalip Tribes. He was known as an advocate and leader for veterans within Native communities all over the United States. 

David leaves behind his loving wife of 37 years, Cherol Fryberg, Daughters – Sabrina “Sookie” and Dorothy “Topo” (Leland), Sons – David Jr. “Chip” (Tina), David “Tigger” (Debbie), Sister – Cookie Fryberg-Robinson, Grandchildren – Ross (Krisan), Richard (Trish), Ryan, Traci (Bryndon), Kisar (Hayley), Kalani (Wendy), Ali, Cheyenne, Wallace, Franky and Tashina. 

He is preceded in death by his parents – Abraham “Shorty” and Elizabeth “Rose” Fryberg, sister – Delores “Punky” Williams and Brother – Leroy Fryberg Sr.

An evening service was held Monday, Feb. 20, 2023 at 6:00 PM at the Tulalip Gathering Hall. Funeral Services were held Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023 at 10:00 AM at the Gathering Hall with burial following at Mission Beach Cemetery.

Dean Fryberg Sr.

January 22, 1945 – February 11, 2023 

Dean Fryberg Sr. Jee-Leets-Kynum a member of the Tulalip Tribes passed away on February 11, 2023. He was born January 22, 1945 in Everett WA. He lived his life in Tulalip, Washington. 

Dean had a great love for his family, tribal community, and for the lands he was born and raised. He loved walking the beaches and picking up eagle feathers as long as he was able to. 
Dean was a stellar athlete, he was a member of the Tulalip Renegades and Tulalip Chiefs. He excelled at Tulalip hardball as a second baseman, basketball where he was known as “Youngblood” by everyone on the native circuit. He played with precision and great talent, carried a lot of love for the game. Dean also was an avid Seattle Seahawks fan. He traveled to San Francisco with his brother Clarence for boxing.
Dean enjoyed participating in the Paddle to Seattle in 1989 with his brothers, and then to Victoria, BC with his Fryberg family in 1994 for the Commonwealth Games. He continued to pull canoe for as long as he could. His last pull was the 20th anniversary of Paddle to Seattle in Suquamish in 2009. 
Dean was a logger, commercial fisherman, Fish Patrol Officer and a welder at the Tulalip Maintenance shop for many years. He enjoyed pole fishing, pool league, hunting, Sr Bingo, and the Casino with LaDonna. Dean’s love for his family was absolute. 
He leaves behind his children: Dean Fryberg Jr, Jimmy Fryberg, Timmy (Lynn) Fryberg, Robert Fryberg, Loris Fryberg, Stephanie Fryberg and special daughter Lahneen Fasthorse. Dean leaves behind his siblings: Billy (Sharleen) Fryberg, Cy (Karen) Fryberg Sr, Jeanette Fryberg, and special brother Pete (Bonnie) Jerry and grandchildren he raised Dereka, LaDwena, William, Chiefy and LaDonna. Along with 23 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren. 
Dean is preceded in death by his parents Martin & Josephine Fryberg; Wife LaDonna Fryberg; Brothers Clarence Hatch Sr, Myron Fryberg Sr, Byron Fryberg Sr, LeRoy Fryberg Sr, Gerald Fryberg Sr, Marlin Fryberg Sr and baby sister Josephine Fryberg. Son Hanford James Sr, and grandchildren Jennifer Fryberg and James (J.D.) Fryberg.

A service for Dean will be Friday, February 17, 2023 at 10:00am at the Tulalip Gathering Hall, 7512 Totem Beach Road, Tulalip, WA 98271. Dean will be laid to rest following service at Mission Beach Cemetery in Tulalip.

Bonnie Lorraine Beam

JUNE 17, 1975 – JANUARY 12, 2023

Bonnie, ” Suki” Beam a Tulalip tribal member born June 17, 1975 in Longview Washington to Shelley Metcalf and Terry Beam.

She is survived by children Tyler (Ashley) and Angel Thomas, Bryce Juneau Jr siblings, Taylor Beam(Keysha), Daniel Jr. (Gloria), & Laura (Eric) Wiggins, Donelle, Scott Jr., & Rayann Bender, grandchildren, Ali-Rae, Gracie, and Enzo Thomas & Anaya Juneau and many relatives.

Bonnie permanently relocated to the lands of her ancestors in 2000 immediately submersing herself and her children into the tribal community. She probably served in various capacities within the Tulalip Tribes with her leadership landing her a position on the Board of Directors, where she was honored to help her people. She will be missed greatly and we will carry on her teachings and leadership.

Lena Arlet Jones

OCTOBER 4, 1957 – DECEMBER 26, 2022

Lena Arlet Jones born on October 4, 1957 in Arlington, Washington to Kenneth Moses Sr. and Theresa (Joseph) Moses passed away on December 26, 2022 surrounded by family. Lena, a Tulalip tribal member, respected and honored her Snoqualmie, Wenatchee, Duwamish, Cowichan, Saanich, and Malahat ancestry.

Lena graduated Darrington High School in 1975, where she held the record as the fastest typist and shorthand transcriber. Lena attended Seattle University shortly after high school and graduated with her Bachelor of Arts from Antioch University in 1998. She received her Master of Arts in Organizational Management from University of Phoenix in 2005.

Lena started working when she was 13 years old at berry farms. Lena dedicated over 31 years of her life to working for The Tulalip Tribes in Natural Resources, bədaʔčəɬ, the Legal Department, and at the Hibulb Cultural Center. Lena loved working as the Education Curator for Hibulb, where she helped coordinate the film festival, lecture series, workshops, and lesson plans. Lena loved to be a part of the quilting group that annually make Veterans quilts to honor and respect the Tulalip service men and women. 

Lena loved and cared for her sisters and brothers. Often recalled as the most caring person while watching over her siblings growing up. As a sister and aunt, every Christmas, she ensured that all of her siblings, nieces and nephews got gifts. She also provided whatever support she could to the family, whether it be finding them work, donating her time or money to their causes, and sharing her knowledge, teachings, and gifts with the culture and spirituality of our people in the United States and Canada. 

Lena raised four children and has nine wonderful grandchildren who were her world. 

Lena is survived by her children, Monique (Moses) & George Jones (son in-law), Kyle Moses, Derek Jones & Christine Ann Jones (daughter in-law), Aaron Jones & Brit Reed; her grandchildren Eilidh Fleek, Sorcha Fleek, George Jones Jr., Kenneth Jones, Walter Jones, Stomper Jones, Artie and Selena Jones (twins), and Mikel Jones; her siblings Russell Moses (Judy), Lyle Moses, Marcia (Moses) Horne (Manual), Susan Moses, Myra (Moses) Hudson (Hoss); her loved nieces and nephews.

Lena is preceded in death by her parents, Kenny Moses Sr. & Theresa (Joseph) Moses; her grandparents, Peter & Selena Joseph, Edward & Helen (Pierce) Moses; her siblings, Kenneth Moses Jr. & Carolyn (Grenier) Moses, Dolly (Moses) Iukes, and Gladys Moses. 

Lena goes on to join our ancestors.

Hayleigh Jo McGhie

Hayleigh Jo (JoJo) McGhie, 17, passed away on December 8, 2022 at Everett Providence Hospital.
Hayleigh was born in Everett, WA on June 22, 2005 to Brett McGhie and Corrina Gobin. 
Throughout her life, Hayleigh enjoyed numerous hobbies which included being a member of the 4H club where she proudly participated in showing dogs and horses. Arts and Crafts with her mother, while listening to their favorite music was another one of her cherished past times. She loved the outdoors; riding and racing quads alongside her father, standing by a bonfire and camping at fish lake will always be memories her family will treasure. Hayleigh attended Arlington High School and looked forward to walking alongside her graduating class of 2023. She was referred to as a sister to many of her friends and offered a sense of family for many youth in need. JoJo was full of life and love, she will be deeply missed by all of her family. At the end of her journey with us, our precious Hayleigh Jo was able to give the gift of life to numerous others through organ donation.
Hayleigh Jo leaves behind her Mother Corrina Gobin, Father Brett McGhie (Dana), Special Guardian Jerry Jones, Sisters – Keely (Taylor), Mykalee, Jaxsyn, Shelby and Taylor (Branden), Brother – Charlie, Great-Grandma Bev, Grandma Donna (Jerry), Papa Steve, Grandpa Kyle (Michelle), Uncles – Kit, Michael (Nicole) and Kyle (Angela) , Aunts – Krisan (Ross), Lori (John), Stacey, Special Auntie/Cousins – Rebecca, Samantha and Cidney, Nephews – Charles, Hank, Brett, Miles and Jr. Nieces – Beverly and Marilyn. She also leaves behind numerous family members that were dear to her heart; but far too many to list. 
She is preceded in death by her Great-Grandpa Tom, Great-Grandma Jo, Grandma Wendy and Uncle Kenny.

Services for Hayleigh will be Friday, December 23, 2022 at 10:00am at the Tulalip Gathering Hall, 7512 Totem Beach Road, Tulalip, WA. Immediately following, Hayleigh will be laid to rest at Mission Beach Cemetery in Tulalip, WA.
